Author: Lauren Wolk
Summary: In this historical fiction novel, Ellie and her family are forced to move to the mountains after they lose everything in the Great Depression. Then, when Ellie’s father is injured in an accident, Ellie must look for the “Hag”, who she believes can help her dad. Along with Ellie picks up healing skills. Can she find the hag, and can Ellie help her dad?
Review: I enjoyed this book because the characters are so developed, they feel like real people, and I can relate to some of the characters. Another reason I like this book is because of how detailed the author describes things, such as landscapes, or the feeling of a bee sting. I could picture everything, even the texture, because of the detail. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books that are about wilderness, or family because this entire because the entire book is set in the wilderness of a mountain. I would also recommend this book to 7 and up because there are some grisly bits, but the whole story is mostly heartwarming.
